About removing vocals from a song
Lead vocals are almost always mixed dead-centre — equal level in the left and right channels. Subtracting one channel from the other (`L − R`) cancels anything panned to the centre, which usually takes the vocal out. That's the whole trick, and this tool does it in your browser with no upload.
It's a blunt instrument. Along with the vocal it removes bass, kick and anything else centred, and it leaves behind reverb tails, backing vocals and any vocal that's been stereo-widened. The result is also mono, since the two channels have been combined. On some songs it sounds like a usable karaoke track; on others the vocal is still clearly there.
It needs a true stereo mix to work — a mono file has no left/right difference to exploit. Proper vocal isolation uses a trained AI model (tens of megabytes) and real processing time; this is the fast, classic approximation.

Common problems
- The vocal is still there
- It was probably stereo-widened or drenched in reverb, which this method can't cancel. Not every song works.
- The bass disappeared too
- Expected — bass is usually centred, so it's cancelled along with the vocal.

Does it fully remove the vocals?+
Rarely. It cancels anything panned dead-centre, which usually means the lead vocal — but also bass and kick, and it leaves reverb and stereo-widened vocals behind. Results vary a lot by song.

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
