About generating passwords
A strong password is just a string with enough randomness that guessing it isn't feasible — length matters more than cleverness, and a machine-generated string beats a memorable phrase for anything that gets stored in a password manager rather than typed from memory. This tool builds one from a length you choose, with toggles for uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols, and an option to skip visually ambiguous characters (0/O, l/1/I) for passwords you'll ever need to type by hand.
The randomness comes from `crypto.getRandomValues`, the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure random number generator — not `Math.random()`, which is fast but predictable and unsuitable for anything security-related. Each character is picked independently from your chosen character set, and the entropy shown (bits) tells you how hard the result is to brute-force: every extra bit doubles the number of guesses needed.
Supported files
No file involved — generates a random password string in your browser, with a one-click copy.
Is my file uploaded?
Yes, completely private by construction. The password is generated and shown only in your browser; it's never sent anywhere, logged, or stored — closing the tab is the only way to make sure nobody else sees it.
How to use the Password Generator
- 1
Set the rules
Pick a length and which character types to include; turn off ambiguous characters if you'll type it by hand.
- 2
Generate
A password is created with the browser's crypto API — regenerate for a new one, or set a count for a batch.
- 3
Copy
Click copy — the password is never sent anywhere or stored.
Password Generator — frequently asked questions
Are these passwords safe to use?+
Yes. They're generated with crypto.getRandomValues in your browser and never transmitted or logged. Use a password manager to store them.
What length should I choose?+
16+ characters with mixed types is strong for most accounts; 20+ for anything important.
Why turn off ambiguous characters?+
So you don't confuse I/l/1 or O/0 when typing the password manually.
Is there a free strong password generator online?+
Yes — this tool. It runs entirely in your browser and nothing is ever transmitted or stored.
Do you upload my files to a server?+
No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.
Is there a file size limit?+
There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
