About recording from your microphone
This captures audio straight from your microphone using the browser's own MediaRecorder API and saves it as a local file — a quick way to record a voice memo, narration or sound clip without installing recording software.
It saves as WebM/Opus in most browsers, which plays natively in modern browsers and media players. If you need MP3 or WAV for an older app, run the result through Audio Converter afterward.
Supported files
Records to WebM/Opus (most browsers). Convert to MP3 or WAV afterward if needed.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Capture and saving both happen locally via your browser's MediaRecorder API — the audio never leaves your device.

Audio Recorder — frequently asked questions
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?+
No. Your microphone audio, accessed via getUserMedia, is captured and saved as a local file entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
What format does it save as?+
WebM/Opus in most browsers, which plays natively in modern browsers and media players. Need MP3 or WAV? Run it through Audio Converter afterward.
Is there a time limit?+
No hard limit — it records for as long as you leave it running, held in memory until you stop.
Does this work on mobile?+
Yes — microphone access via getUserMedia works on most mobile browsers too.
Do you upload my files to a server?+
No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.
Is there a file size limit?+
There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
