About changing a PDF's background color
Tinting a document's background — a soft cream instead of stark white, a pale color to match a brand — is a small visual change that's normally impossible without opening the file in a design tool and rebuilding each page. This tool tints every page's background to a color you pick directly.
It re-renders each page as an image with pdf.js, replaces the light background pixels with your chosen color while leaving darker content (text, graphics) intact, and rebuilds the PDF with pdf-lib — entirely in your browser. Because it works by re-rendering, selectable text on the original page becomes part of a flattened image afterward.
Supported files
Accepts a PDF and a color. Produces the same PDF with every page's background tinted to that color.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The whole process runs in your browser with pdf.js and pdf-lib — nothing is uploaded.

Change PDF Background Color — frequently asked questions
Does the text stay readable?+
Yes — dark content is multiplied over the new background so it stays visible. Pick a light colour for best results.
Is it reversible?+
No — pages become flat images. Keep your original.
Is there a free way to change a PDF's background colour?+
Yes — this tool tints the background entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.
Can I preview the new colour before applying it?+
Yes — a live preview on the current page shows the tinted background before you apply it to the whole document.
Do you upload my files to a server?+
No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.
Is there a file size limit?+
There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
