About converting a PDF to CSV

When a PDF contains a table you actually want as data — for import into a spreadsheet, a script, or a database — CSV is the simplest, most universally compatible format to land it in. This tool detects tables inside a PDF and exports each one's rows as comma-separated values.

It reads the document with pdf.js and groups text by its on-page position to reconstruct rows and columns — the same table-detection step behind PDF to Excel — then writes each detected table's rows out as plain CSV text. It works well on documents with a clear grid-like layout; a table with merged cells or unusual spacing may need light manual cleanup after export.

Supported files

Accepts a PDF with one or more tables. Produces a .csv file — each detected table's rows, comma-separated.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Table detection and CSV export both happen entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

PDF to CSV — frequently asked questions

Does this work on any PDF?+

It needs selectable text. A scanned PDF has only page images — run OCR PDF first, then extract.

The columns didn't split correctly — why?+

Column detection is based on where text sits on the page. Tables with merged cells, wrapped lines, or no consistent alignment are hard to reconstruct perfectly — check the output and adjust in your spreadsheet.

CSV or Excel?+

CSV is a single plain-text file that opens anywhere. Excel (.xlsx) keeps each page on its own sheet.

Is 'PDF to CSV' the same as 'PDF to Excel'?+

They read the same data; CSV is one flat file, Excel is a workbook. Use whichever your next step expects.

Is there a free way to extract PDF tables into a CSV?+

Yes — this tool exports the detected table rows entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
