About converting BMP to JPG

BMP is an old, essentially uncompressed Windows image format — files are far larger than they need to be for how little quality that buys, and most modern software would rather work with JPG. This tool converts a BMP into a properly compressed JPG.

The image is decoded and re-encoded as JPG on a canvas at your chosen quality, entirely in your browser — typically shrinking the file dramatically, since BMP's lack of compression is the main thing being fixed here.

Supported files

Accepts BMP images. Produces a .jpg image, typically much smaller.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The BMP is decoded and re-encoded as JPG entirely in your browser on a canvas — it's never uploaded.

How to BMP to JPG

It's re-encoded as JPG, usually a big size drop from the uncompressed BMP.

  3. 3

    Download

    Save the JPG.

BMP to JPG — frequently asked questions

Is the file uploaded?+

No — the BMP is decoded and re-encoded as JPG entirely in your browser.

Any quality loss?+

Only the single re-encode to JPG, which is negligible at default quality.

Is there a free BMP to JPG converter online?+

Yes — this tool decodes and re-encodes the BMP as JPG entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.

Can I control the JPG quality?+

Yes — a quality slider is available before you download, the same control the other JPG converters offer.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
