About converting PNG to JPG

PNG files are often much larger than they need to be for photos or anywhere small file size matters more than pixel-perfect lossless quality — converting to JPG typically shrinks the file substantially, at the cost of JPG's lossy compression and no transparency support.

The image is decoded and re-encoded as JPG on a canvas, entirely in your browser. If the source PNG has a transparent background, it's flattened onto a solid color (white by default) during conversion, since JPG has no concept of transparency — worth checking the result if your PNG had transparent areas.

Supported files

Accepts PNG images. Produces a .jpg image.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The PNG is decoded and re-encoded as JPG entirely in your browser on a canvas — it's never uploaded.

Common problems

A transparent area turned white (or another solid color)
JPG doesn't support transparency, so it's replaced with a solid background color during conversion — this is expected. Keep the PNG if you need the transparency preserved.

PNG to JPG — frequently asked questions

What happens to transparency?+

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white before encoding.

How much smaller will the JPG be?+

For photos, often 3–10× smaller than the PNG. For flat graphics with few colours the saving is smaller.

Is there a free PNG to JPG converter online?+

Yes — this tool decodes and re-encodes the PNG entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.

Can I control the JPG quality?+

Yes — a quality slider is available before you download, trading file size against visible compression.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
