About converting AVIF to JPG

AVIF is a newer image format with excellent compression, but support is still spottier than JPG's — older browsers, some apps and many printers don't open it yet. This tool converts an AVIF to the universally-supported JPG.

The AVIF is decoded to a bitmap using your browser's native image decoding and re-encoded as JPG on a canvas at your chosen quality — entirely in your browser. Expect the file to grow somewhat, since AVIF's compression is generally more efficient than JPG's at equivalent quality.

Supported files

Accepts AVIF images. Produces a .jpg image.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Your browser's native AVIF decoder handles the decode, and re-encoding as JPG happens entirely on your device — the image is never uploaded.

AVIF to JPG — frequently asked questions

Is the file uploaded?+

No — the AVIF is decoded and re-encoded as JPG entirely in your browser.

Any quality loss?+

Only the single re-encode from the AVIF to JPG, which is negligible at default quality.

Is there a free AVIF to JPG converter online?+

Yes — this tool decodes the AVIF and re-encodes it as JPG entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.

Does every browser support decoding AVIF?+

Modern Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari all decode AVIF natively, which this tool relies on for the JPG conversion — a very old browser may not open the source file at all.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
