About N-up PDF layout

N-up printing lays several document pages onto a single physical sheet — 2-up puts two side by side, 4-up arranges four in a grid, and so on — to save paper on a long draft or reference document you're printing just to have on hand. The pages stay in their original reading order, left-to-right then top-to-bottom, just packed onto fewer sheets.

The tool builds a new PDF with pdf-lib, laying out each source page into its own cell on a new, larger page: every page is scaled down as needed to fit its cell while keeping its own aspect ratio, and a page smaller than its cell is centered rather than stretched to fill it. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

N-up PDF — frequently asked questions

What does "n-up" mean?+

It means printing multiple pages onto a single sheet — 2-up puts 2 pages side by side, 4-up puts 4 in a grid, and so on, to save paper when printing a long document.

Which layout should I pick?+

2-up and 4-up stay easily readable for most documents; 6-up and 9-up are best for reference material you're printing just to have on hand, since the text gets small.

Does it change the page order?+

No — pages are laid out left-to-right, top-to-bottom in their original order, just combined onto fewer physical sheets.

Is there a limit on file size or page count?+

No hard limit — it processes as many pages as your browser's memory can handle, right on your device.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
