About converting GIF to JPG

Converting a GIF to JPG lifts its 256-color limit to full photographic color depth and generally produces a smaller file for a photo-like image, at the cost of JPG's lossy compression.

The first (or only) frame is decoded and re-encoded as JPG on a canvas at your chosen quality, entirely in your browser. As with GIF to PNG, only a single frame carries over — an animated GIF's motion isn't preserved by converting to a still-image format like JPG.

Supported files

Accepts GIF images. Produces a .jpg image (single frame — animation isn't carried over).

Is my file uploaded?

No. The GIF's frame is decoded and re-encoded as JPG entirely in your browser on a canvas — it's never uploaded.

GIF to JPG — frequently asked questions

Is the file uploaded?+

No — the GIF is decoded and re-encoded as JPG entirely in your browser.

Any quality loss?+

Only the single re-encode from the GIF's frame to JPG, which is negligible at default quality.

Is there a free GIF to JPG converter online?+

Yes — this tool decodes the GIF's frame and re-encodes it as JPG entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.

Does this keep the animation?+

No — only the first frame is used. Keep the original GIF if you need the animation preserved.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
