About converting PDF to Excel

This pulls tabular data out of a PDF into a spreadsheet so you can sort, total, and analyse numbers that were trapped in a report or statement.

The tool detects rows and columns in the PDF's text and writes them to an .xlsx file, entirely in your browser. It works best on PDFs with clean, clearly ruled tables; merged cells, multi-line entries, and tables that span pages may need tidying up afterwards. Scanned tables need OCR first.

PDF to Excel — frequently asked questions

How does this know what's a table versus regular paragraphs?+

It doesn't detect tables specifically — it groups text by its position on the page, turning aligned rows and columns into spreadsheet cells. Actual tables in the PDF convert well; regular paragraphs of text will come out as one long cell per line rather than being split into columns.

Why did it produce an empty or blank spreadsheet?+

If the PDF is a scanned image with no selectable text layer, there's no text to extract — run OCR PDF first to add a text layer, then convert.

How are multiple pages handled?+

Each page of the PDF becomes its own sheet in the output workbook, named 'Page 1', 'Page 2', and so on.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
