MP3 to WAV — frequently asked questions
Why is the WAV so much bigger?+
WAV is uncompressed PCM — roughly 10× an MP3. That's expected: it's the trade-off for a lossless, editing-friendly file.
Does converting to WAV improve quality?+
No. It can't restore detail the MP3 already discarded — but it won't lose any more, which is useful before further editing.
Is it uploaded?+
No — the MP3 is decoded and the WAV is written entirely in your browser.
What sample rate is the WAV?+
The same sample rate as the source MP3, as 16-bit PCM.
Do you upload my files to a server?+
No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.
Is there a file size limit?+
There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
