About resizing a video with a blurred-background fill
Turning a horizontal video vertical for TikTok, Reels or Shorts usually means either cropping off the sides (losing content) or adding plain black bars (looking unfinished). This does what most short-form editing apps call a blurred background fill instead: the full original frame stays visible, centered, with a blurred and scaled-up copy of the same frame filling in the rest of the canvas behind it.
Each frame is drawn twice — once scaled to fully cover the target canvas and blurred, as the background, then again at its natural proportions, contained within the canvas, sharp, on top. The video is re-encoded at the new target resolution (1080×1920 for 9:16, 1080×1080 for 1:1, and so on). Everything happens on your device through WebCodecs; nothing is uploaded.
