About making an ID photo
Passport, visa and ID applications each demand a photo at a precise size — 2×2 inches, 35×45mm, or another exact spec — with a plain background, and getting a normal phone photo into that shape usually means a trip to a print shop. This tool crops and resizes a photo to a standard ID size directly in your browser, with presets for common document types.
Pick a preset (or a custom size), position the crop over your photo, and the tool resamples it to the exact target pixel dimensions at print resolution using canvas operations, replacing the background with a solid color if needed. Nothing is uploaded — the photo is processed entirely on your device.
Supported files
Accepts a JPG, PNG or WebP photo. Produces an image at the exact pixel dimensions of the ID/passport preset you choose.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Cropping and resizing happen entirely in your browser — the photo is never uploaded.

ID Photo Maker — frequently asked questions
Does this remove the background behind the person?+
No — it only crops and resizes the photo you upload onto a solid-color canvas, filling any leftover margin. It doesn't detect or remove what's already behind the subject in the original photo.
Will the exact pixel size meet official passport/visa requirements?+
The presets target common published sizes at print resolution, but requirements vary by country and issuer — double-check the exact spec for your application before submitting.
What's the difference between "Fill frame" and "Fit inside"?+
Fill frame scales the photo up until it covers the whole frame, cropping any excess — the usual choice for a headshot. Fit inside scales it down to show the entire photo, which can leave a background-colored margin on two sides.
Is there a free way to make a passport or visa photo online?+
Yes — this tool crops and resizes a photo to standard ID sizes, free and entirely in your browser.
Do you upload my files to a server?+
No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.
Is there a file size limit?+
There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
