About circle-cropping an image

A circular photo with a transparent background — the shape almost every profile picture and avatar slot expects — needs an image format that supports transparency and a crop that's actually round, not just square with rounded corners. This tool crops any photo to a perfect circle with a transparent background.

The image is decoded onto a canvas, a circular clipping path is applied so only the pixels inside the circle are kept, and the result is exported as a PNG to preserve the transparent corners — entirely in your browser. Position and size the circle over the part of the photo you want inside it before exporting.

Supported files

Accepts JPG, PNG, WebP and other common images. Produces a .png with a circular crop and a transparent background.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The circular crop is drawn entirely in your browser on a canvas — the image is never uploaded.

Circle Crop — frequently asked questions

Why is the output a PNG?+

A circle needs a transparent background outside it, which JPG can't store.

What if my image isn't square?+

The largest centred square is used, then cropped to a circle.

Is there a free way to crop a photo to a circle?+

Yes — this tool crops the circle entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.

Can I reposition the circle after placing it?+

Yes — drag it to the part of the photo you want inside the circle before exporting.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
