About splitting a PDF by file size
Email attachment limits, upload caps, and file-size-restricted forms are a common reason to split a large PDF — not by a page count you'd have to calculate, the way the main Split PDF tool works, but by a target size you already know, like "keep every part under 10 MB." This tool breaks a document into consecutive chunks that each stay under the limit you set.
It adds pages to each output file one at a time with pdf-lib, checking the running size against your target, and starts a new file whenever the next page would push it over — entirely in your browser. Because page sizes vary (a page full of images is heavier than a page of plain text), the number of pages per output file isn't necessarily even, but every file stays under your limit.
Supported files
Accepts a PDF and a target size in MB. Produces multiple PDFs, each under that size, zipped together.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The size-based split runs entirely in your browser with pdf-lib — nothing is uploaded.

Split PDF by File Size — frequently asked questions
Does it compress the pages?+
No — it only groups pages. To make the file itself smaller, use Compress PDF or Compress to Target Size first.
What if one page is bigger than the limit?+
That page becomes its own file, and the tool notes it couldn't get under the limit for that one.
Is there a free way to split a PDF into files under a size limit?+
Yes — this tool splits by target size entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.
Can I set the limit in MB or KB?+
Yes — enter the target either way, whichever matches the limit you were given.
Do you upload my files to a server?+
No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.
Is there a file size limit?+
There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
