About removing a watermark from a PDF
A watermark or stamp added as a proper PDF annotation or named layer — the kind produced by a tool like this site's own Watermark or Image Watermark — is a distinct object inside the file, separate from the page content, which means it can be found and removed the same way it was added. This tool looks for exactly that: watermark and stamp annotations, and layers named as watermarks.
It scans the PDF's annotation and layer objects with pdf-lib for anything matching a watermark or stamp pattern and removes those objects, leaving the rest of the page untouched — entirely in your browser. This only works on watermarks stored as real objects, though: one baked directly into a page's image — a scanned stamp, or a watermark flattened into a photo — is part of the pixels themselves and can't be lifted out this way. For that case, use Redact PDF to black out the area instead.
Supported files
Accepts a PDF. Produces the same PDF with removable watermark/stamp objects stripped out.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Watermark removal runs entirely in your browser with pdf-lib — nothing is uploaded.
Common problems
- "No removable watermark found"
- The watermark is likely baked into the page image itself rather than stored as a separate annotation or layer — this tool can only remove watermarks that exist as distinct objects. Use Redact PDF to permanently black out the area instead.

Remove Watermark from PDF — frequently asked questions
Which watermarks can this remove?+
Watermarks and stamps that a PDF tool added as an annotation or as an optional-content layer — which is how most 'add watermark' features and 'sample'/'confidential' stamps work.
It says no watermark was found — why?+
The mark is drawn directly into the page's content, or it's part of a scanned page image. Those can't be lifted out without re-creating the document; cover them with the Redact tool instead.
Is my PDF uploaded?+
No. The whole operation runs in your browser with pdf-lib — nothing is sent to a server.
Will removing the watermark also remove my comments?+
It targets watermark and stamp annotations and named watermark layers. Ordinary highlights and notes are kept.
Is there a free way to remove a watermark from a PDF?+
Yes — this tool strips the watermark entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.
Do you upload my files to a server?+
No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.
Is there a file size limit?+
There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
