About unlocking a PDF

This removes a known password from a PDF so you don't have to type it every time you open a file you own — for example a bank statement that arrives encrypted.

You provide the password, the protection is stripped in your browser, and you download an unencrypted copy. It only works when you already know the password; it is not a way to bypass protection on a document you don't have access to. Nothing is uploaded.

Unlock PDF — frequently asked questions

Do I need to know the password to use this?+

Yes — this removes a password you already know, verified locally in your browser before anything happens. It doesn't crack, guess, or brute-force a password you don't have.

What happens if I enter the wrong password?+

You'll get a clear "that password doesn't match" message and can try again — nothing is sent anywhere in the process, so there's no lockout or attempt limit.

Is this the same as a 'PDF password remover'?+

Yes — unlocking and removing a password both mean the same thing: stripping the encryption from a PDF once you've verified you know its password.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
