About scanning a QR code

Reading a QR code without a phone's camera app handy — from a photo you already have, or from your webcam — needs a decoder that can find and read the code's pattern from an image. This tool scans a QR code from your camera or an uploaded photo and shows you what it decodes to.

It analyzes the image's pixel data directly in your browser using a JavaScript QR-decoding library, locating the code's finder patterns and reading out the encoded text or URL — the same underlying technique a phone's camera app uses, just running as a web page. If the result is a link, you can open it directly; if it's text, copy it with one click.

Supported files

Accepts a live camera feed or an uploaded photo containing a QR code. Produces the decoded text or link on screen.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Scanning and decoding both happen entirely in your browser — no image or video is uploaded.

Common problems

The scanner can't find a code in the photo
Make sure the QR code is in focus, well-lit, and fills a reasonable portion of the frame — a blurry or very small code in the photo won't decode reliably.

QR Code Scanner — frequently asked questions

Is the camera feed uploaded anywhere?+

No. The video never leaves your device — each frame is scanned locally in your browser and immediately discarded.

What kinds of QR codes does it read?+

Any standard QR code — a URL, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials, an email address, or a phone number — and it shows the right action for each.

Why didn't it find a code in my photo?+

The code needs to be reasonably sharp and not too small in the frame. Crop the photo closer to the code and try again, or use the camera option instead.

Is there a free QR code scanner online?+

Yes — this tool decodes the QR code entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
