About cropping a video for social
Every platform wants a different shape — Instagram feed is square, Reels and TikTok are 9:16, YouTube is 16:9 — and posting the wrong one gets your video letterboxed or awkwardly cut. This tool re-frames a video to the ratio you pick, cropping from the centre, entirely in your browser.
It works by playing the source and re-recording just the cropped region off a canvas, so the audio is kept and the output is a normal MP4 or WebM. Because it re-records in real time, it's best for the short clips these ratios are usually for.
The crop is centred — fine for most talking-head and product clips. If the subject sits off to one side, nudge it toward the middle in another editor first. For a resolution change without cropping, this also downscales when you pick a smaller frame.
Supported files
Accepts any video your browser can play. Produces an MP4 or WebM at the chosen aspect ratio.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The video is re-recorded from a canvas in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Common problems
- The important part got cropped out
- The crop is taken from the centre. Reposition the subject toward the middle in another tool first, then crop here.

Crop Video — frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded?+
No. It's cropped by re-recording from a canvas in your browser.
Can I choose where the crop is?+
This version crops from the centre. For an off-centre subject, move it toward the middle in another editor first.
Does it re-encode?+
Yes, in real time — best for short clips. The audio is kept.
Which ratios are there?+
Square 1:1, portrait 9:16, landscape 16:9, and classic 4:3, plus keeping the original.
Do you upload my files to a server?+
No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.
Is there a file size limit?+
There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
