About splitting PDF pages horizontally

Some documents pack two logical pages onto one physical sheet — a scanned book spread, a landscape page meant to be read as two halves — and it's often more useful to have each half as its own page. This tool cuts every page of a PDF into a top half and a bottom half, each becoming its own page in the output.

It re-renders each page as an image with pdf.js, crops it exactly in half along the horizontal midline, and rebuilds the PDF from the two resulting halves per original page with pdf-lib — entirely in your browser. Because this works by re-rendering, selectable text on the original page becomes part of a flattened image afterward.

Supported files

Accepts a PDF. Produces a PDF with double the page count — a top half and bottom half for every original page.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The split runs entirely in your browser with pdf.js and pdf-lib — nothing is uploaded.

Split Pages Horizontally — frequently asked questions

When is this useful?+

Two slides or receipts stacked on one page, or a spread scanned as a single tall page.

Is text still selectable?+

Yes — this is a true page split, not a re-render.

Is there a free way to cut a PDF page in half?+

Yes — this tool cuts every page in half entirely in your browser, free and with nothing uploaded.

Does the split point stay exactly in the middle?+

Yes — every page is cut exactly at its horizontal midline, top half and bottom half.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
