About removing a green screen in the browser

This keys a solid green or blue backdrop out of a video and replaces it with a color or an image of your own — the same effect a weather forecaster's map or a streamer's virtual background relies on, done frame by frame on your device.

Each frame is drawn to an isolated canvas so its pixels can be measured: anything close enough to the chosen key color becomes transparent, with a short feather at the edge so hair and soft boundaries don't get a hard cutout look, and the result is composited over the new background before being re-encoded. It works best under even lighting, on a solid, uncrinkled screen, with nothing in the subject matching the key color — exactly what any chroma key setup needs, real studio or bedroom backdrop alike.

Supported files

Accepts MP4, MOV, WebM and other video your browser can play, plus PNG/JPG/WebP for an image background. Produces a video in the same container.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The video is keyed and composited entirely in your browser.

Drop in footage filmed against a solid green or blue screen — it's read in your browser, never uploaded.

Choose green or blue to match your screen, then a solid color or an image to replace it with.

  3. 3

    Remove and download

Green Screen Remover — frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?+

No. The screen is keyed out and the new background composited entirely in your browser.

Does it need a real green screen?+

It works best with an evenly lit, solid, uncrinkled green or blue backdrop and no matching color in the subject's clothes or skin tone — the same conditions any chroma key tool needs.

Can I use my own background image instead of a color?+

Yes — switch to Image and upload one; it's scaled to fill the frame behind the keyed subject.

Which browsers work?+

Chrome, Edge and Safari 17+ — keying the video needs WebCodecs.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
