What is Bates numbering?+

A sequential numbering scheme — a prefix plus a zero-padded number, like ABC000001 — that law firms and courts use to uniquely identify and reference every page across a set of documents.

Can I number multiple files as one continuous sequence?+

Yes — add several PDFs and the numbering continues across all of them in the order they're listed, so file two picks up where file one left off.

Can I customize the prefix and number of digits?+

Yes — set any prefix text and choose how many digits to zero-pad to (e.g. 6 digits gives 000001), plus the starting number and position on the page.

Is this the same as regular page numbers?+

No — Bates numbers are typically a longer, prefixed, zero-padded sequence meant for legal document identification, while the Page Numbers tool is a simpler running count. Use whichever format your situation calls for.
