Detect Plagiarism — frequently asked questions

Does this search the internet or academic databases for matches?+

No — this isn't a match-against-the-internet checker like Turnitin or Copyscape. Claude reads the document's writing itself and flags passages with signals like sudden tone or vocabulary shifts, generic/templated phrasing, or a voice that's inconsistent with the rest of the text. Treat a flag as "worth a second look," not proof of copying.

Why did it flag something that isn't actually plagiarized?+

Natural writing variety — a technical section reading differently from an introduction, for instance — can look similar to the signals this tool watches for. It's a heuristic, not a certified report; use your judgment on anything flagged.

Does this work on scanned PDFs?+

Only if the PDF has a selectable text layer. Purely scanned images with no OCR applied won't have any text to analyze.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The only exception is the AI tools, which send the extracted text (not the file) to Claude to do their work.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
