Bank Statement to Excel — frequently asked questions

How is this different from the regular PDF to Excel tool?+

PDF to Excel makes one sheet per page from whatever grid it finds. This tool instead recognizes transaction rows by their date, keeps them in one continuous list across every page, and sorts amounts into Debit/Credit/Balance columns.

How does it decide if an amount is a debit or a credit?+

By comparing the running balance to the previous row's — if the balance went down, that row's amount is a debit; if it went up, it's a credit. Most statements don't label this clearly once reduced to plain text, so this is the most reliable signal available.

Will it work with any bank's statement format?+

It's tuned for the common passbook layout: date, description, one or two amount columns, and a running balance. Unusual formats — multiple accounts on one page, non-standard date formats — may need some manual cleanup after export.

Why are some rows missing?+

Only lines that begin with a recognizable date are treated as transactions. A scanned statement with no selectable text needs OCR PDF first; an oddly formatted date may not be recognized at all.

Do you upload my files to a server?+

No — every tool here processes your files entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The AI tools that used to send extracted text to a server are currently disabled.

Is there a file size limit?+

There's no artificial limit we impose, but since processing happens in your browser, very large files (500+ MB or 1,000+ pages) are limited by your device's memory rather than by us.
